Display 3D in double cad XT?
« on: April 30, 2012, 05:02:09 AM »
Hi,

I created a few 2D dimensioned blue prints in Double Cad, is there a way to display them in 3D and rotate them, show them from different perspectives?

I tried showing them in 3D by going into View>3D, but just the perspective changes, the drawings still appear flat. I gues I am asking if I can display drawings like Google Sketchup does as three dimensional surfaces - but as line drawings of course...

Seems only available in 'Pro' version

Select 2D object (rectangle for example) then go to > Modify > Properties > then in the dialog box change the thickness e.g. from 0.00 to 25mm. This will basically 'extrude' the rectangle to a thickness of 25mm!
Then go to view > orbit > examine. This will allow you to rotate/orbit the around.

Or
Again in pro you can save your drawing as a 3ds.file and open up in 'sketchup' and view and rotate as you wish and then of course if required you can export as a 'solid' model.

OK...so in Modify, do I choose Pen?  Can't seem to find "Thickness"...

re: …Thickness

Look for "Thickness" on the "3D" page of the objects' Properties dialog.

When I select an object like a 2d rectangle, and left click on the object to bring up properties, the 3d page does not come up...

I have general, pen, brush, format.....but no 3d...

re: …but no 3d…

I get the feeling that Thickness is a Pro Only feature, but I don't see anything in Help stating one way or the other;  Creating 3D Objects by Editing 2D Objects.

XT also allows for thickness.
