Invisible arrowheads...
« on: April 01, 2012, 06:06:55 PM »
Hi All,

Newbie question here. I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't see my leader arrowheads when annotating in paperspace. They show up fine in modelspace.

Thanks

It could be that you're working in Metric in Modelspace, but your Paperspace is in English.

Thanks John, but as far as I can tell it's architectural/english in both.

Is the Scale for the Paperspace set to something other than "1:1"?

Normally, both model and paper spaces are 1:1, while the Scale of an inserted Viewport is set to a specific size; 1:48, 1:96, etc.

Yes, they're both set to 1:1, and I've figured out the various viewport scale options. Very cool compared to hand drafting!

I think I've screwed around with the properties for format/arrowheads/leader so much, that I have no idea what I've done, or how to get back to "normal" without losing other formatting that I've set.

I am used to using deep software: photoshop, coreldraw, dreamweaver, sketchup etc, but I've never used anything with this many options for every level of operation- and I've seemed to encounter a few bugs too...

Does this screenshot tell you anything? Thanks again for your help.

Looking at the size of the arrowhead and text, it could be that the actual dimension is too small to accommodate such large sizes. Zooming out may reveal something. To get back to 'normal', look at the Dimension Properties settings in the Help file. Instead of changing various settings for size, you would probably be better off using "Dimension Size Scale" on the Format page to change the overall size of a dimension. This has nothing to do with the other "Scale" found on the Units/Tolerance page.

Another thing to look at are Property Values Presets. You could have one dimension preset for use in modelspace and another preset for paperspace. See also: Dimension Styles.

You could also post the problem drawing and hopefully someone can help spot the error.

Thanks much John! That gives me a good place to start. Like I say, I have no idea how I reached the current settings... I don't really have a firm understanding of the dimension properties, property values presets, or dimension styles.

I've only studied the doublecad training vids. They are good for showing you how to work in the program, but weak on structural concepts on how the program environment works. Probably not really aimed at beginners... Perhaps they should include a set of pre-sets for common working environs: US & metric architectural, engineering, etc, with all the common settings for type, lines & colors, arrowhead, etc already chosen for newbies.

I'll study the suggested help files, and see if I can correct my drawing. I'll keep you posted. If I can't figure it out still, I'll post the drawing and maybe one of you power users can easily spot my error.

Just to follow up on this topic, I finally opened a new architectural template, and copied all the template arrowhead/leader properties back to my problem file's changed leader properties: success! with no other lost custom settings.

But it did take me a while to figure out that you need to turn off "force text horizontal" to get rid of the short horizontal line at the end of a leader...

I'm starting to understand the properties, pre-sets, and styles, which has lead me to a couple of other questions- but I'll post them as separate topics.

Thanks again for your help John.
