Dimension Property
« on: March 19, 2012, 07:30:21 PM »
Hi. I am looking for a ways to configure the dimension property. Is there any way to make my dimension property permanent? Example, when i have made my configuration for let say scale to 5. When i try to do another dimension , the configuration turn back to the old configuration, i.e scale =1

Hi anwarms

I`ve just checked this in DoubleCAD Pro and there doesn`t seem to be a way to keep the change persistant. I hope this is sorted out for the next release!

I guess for now you have to do all your dimensioning first, then format the 'Dimension' layer and set the dimension size scale for all dimensions that are on that layer - this will then reflect the changes. Its not ideal but I cant see any other way to do this currently.

Hi spider65
You can set your own dimension style by "Styles Manager palette". Select from the menu Tools / Palettes / Style Manager Palette. Then choose from Style Manager  "Dimensions Style" and check "standard". Choose "create new style" and set the name and all  parameters, and then select "Apply Style Changes".(snap1) This style is then possible to select in the properties of dimensioning.(snap2) If you open a new drawing that style will not be available, but suffice  to copy any dimension with this style from the previous drawing and paste it into new drawing (it also copy the entire style).Such a dimension can be removed later.

Thankyou for your reply.

1. Setting your 'own' dimension style works fine for the 'current' drawing only!
> however it would be better if a users 'own' dimension style could be set up also in the 'program setup', so you could use your own style when you wanted to - either for a current drawing or as a default dimension set-up. So when creating layers my 'dimension' layer is set to how I want it!

2.To copy and paste a selective dimension entity into a new drawing is OK as a 'workaround' - but having tried this, I found that I still had to repeatedly select 'my own style' from properties > Dimension styles > 'my style'.
My own dimension style that I wanted to use for all dimensioning in my new drawing wouldn`t remain persistant.

I tested this with large text and the text would always revert back to the smaller default size!

I tried to set up a layer with my own dimension style attributes, but again it didn`t work.

Any more thoughts on this guys?
As well as anwarms I am now trying to set up a layer called 'My Dimension' with certain defined dimension attributes , such as - Text height, that I want to save as a template and then use over and over again in a set of drawings for some scale Architectural models of stud walls, roofing types etc...

Thanks in advance for your replies  :)

Hi
set the parameters of which you speak, and save the drawing as a template. Use File / Save as / DoubleCAD Template. If you are using " Architecture / Walls" tool,  you can use the automatic dimensioning "Architecture / Walls / Wall Dimension". The parameters you can set in "Tools / Palettes / Style Manager Palette / AEC Dimension Style". With the style you  have, however, these problems which we have already mentioned.

I finally worked it out how to keep my dimension style persistant! Quite simply once a new dimension style has been set up in the style manager, its just a case of selecting a dimension tool and then in 'properties' making sure the dimension property style is set for the new style before you use it - then it remains persistant, no problems, and yes I can copy/paste an existing dimension entity (with a new style) into a new drawing and use this method again with no problems.

I agree it seems a little tricky as you said, but I think if your serious about DoubleCAD and once you`ve got your head around it it becomes very easy indeed.  ;)
