File Save Problem 2CD and TCW
« on: December 02, 2011, 08:16:56 AM »
Hi,  New user here.

I have installed Double Cad and have a file save problem.

I get an error every time I try to save a IMSI type file.  2CD or 2CT, or TCW.  It says "Failed to save.........unknown error". Other formats seem to work just fine.

I'm using the trial version of Double CAD pro.  Ver 3.1.  I'm running under Win 7 Home Premium - 64bit.

So far I have tried a fresh download, and uninstall - install.  Same problem.  I've also tried running as administrator.

Any thoughts anyone.

Thanks

What is the origin of the file you are trying to save?

Thanks for the reply.

The file is just a simple line I placed with Double Cad.  I drew the line and hit save - got the error.  Saves just fine as a DWG.

Kurt, I have Vista and 32 bit. I have tried and do not have a problem. If the file is read only you would need to save as another name. Have you opened a new drawing template or an existing drawing? Check for 'read only' has not been checked.

Hi Steve,  I just tried to open a DWG file created in another CAD program.  Opens fine, but won't save - same error message.

I opened Intellicad and tried to save a DWG - same problem.  Strange indeed.  At this point I don't think its a Double Cad problem.  Most likely a conflict under 64 bit Win 7.  I think I see an fresh install of Win 7 in my future.

Thanks,

Kurt

You could be right. I have tried Win 7, but not 64 bit.

You may need to go into reg edit and clean DoubleCAD right out to get a fresh impression. Be VERY CAREFUL while in reg edit.

An update to my problem.  After several months of chasing this "no save" problem, I found the problem.  It was an conflict with the video drivers.  I cleaned my system of all the video drivers and software and let Windows 7 install the one it wanted.  It has fixed several problems I've been having with CAD programs.  My video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 on an Asus notebook.  Funny it only showed up with CAD programs.

Now I get to really try Double CAD.

Maybe this will help somebody else.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Steve.  Now that I can save, I can give DCAD a real trial.
